My formal education includes being a Registered Massage Therapist (2021) and having a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology (2016) but my informal training is in ITF style Taekwon-Do training (since 1999).
Outside of work, I train Taekwon-Do 2-3 times a week while I also pursue strength training, swimming, biking and hiking when the weather is good. After work, I enjoy cooking a proper homemade meal even on busy days.
A treatment subject that takes advantage of my own strengths that I can confidently do would be working with someone who has the motivation to be a participant in their own recovery process. While massage therapy can be a passive therapy, it does not need to be.
I prefer to educate my patients during treatment so they can better understand their condition. Then, drawing on my previous kinesiology experience, I recommend at-home exercise or changes in my patients’ daily habits to help facilitate their recovery.
